because they don’t know if they should call me Julie or Mrs. Faulkner. They
usually choose Mrs. Faulkner!
on my walls because I hate making bulletin boards. I’m even guilty of having a
cute activity planned but run out of time in class to do it, so I send it home
for extra credit just so I can hang it up!
those cork strips pictured where I hang student work up in the hallway? Here’s
how I did it to get a quick and cheap alternative to those expensive bulletin
board strips. Just get the square cork boards that in come in packs at the Dollar
General or Staples and cut them into strips. Hot glue them to the wall, and voilà!
You have instant cork strips for a couple of bucks.

my motto. Is it bad that when my students see me drinking a “red coke” they
know it’s been a bad day?
about teaching is creating lessons and activities that students enjoy and can
connect to. I love trying new teaching strategies or texts. I have a few texts that
I teach over and over each year, but I’m always rotating others in and out
because something in the class, news, or world inspires me to develop a
lesson. That keeps me busy, but I like not being stuck in a rut! See all my other goodies in my teacherspayteachers.com store!

I love the cork strip idea! And the coke… my students know that I switch from coffee to water after lunch. If I'm drinking coffee in the afternoon, they know something is up! We teachers are a unique breed.
Julie says
Isn't that funny! I'm the same way with coffee and water… that's why my Coke is such a big deal! LOL!

I love those grammar fails but don't think I know what a Red Coke is. But it's great that you have a nonverbal cue for your students to know when to be on their best behavior! 😉

Hey!! That's so funny… a Red Coke is just a regular Coke – not diet! I need the full strength! Thanks for linking up with us!

Preach! Students know about my relationship with Diet Coke, too. I love your bulletin board confession… I'm sure students love that just as much (or more) as another type of display you could make!
Julie says
Hey Sara!
I think they do like it, and that totally works for me. Who has time for cute bulletin boards with 100+ essays to grade!?!? Thanks for linking up with us!

I used to hate seeing students outside of school but now I'm used to it. It feels great when they're excited to say "hello" and my husband, friends or other family is with me!
Julie says
Hey Kim!
I know what you mean about seeing kids out of school… but I agree, it is something you have to get used to. Again, something that's really only awkward for secondary teachers!
Thanks for linking up with us!
