for this festive season, I want to take this time to pause and reflect on the
true meaning of Christmas. While I was getting this post together, a line
from the familiar Nativity story about clothing came to mind. Luke 2:7
says, “And she [Mary] brought forth her
firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a
manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” Babies are
wrapped in swaddling clothes to give them comfort and to make them feel secure.
I think the image of the swaddling clothes is included here not by
accident, but to remind us that Jesus is here to wrap us in His love, comfort,
grace, and mercy – if we will let Him. On this Christmas Eve, I am
thankful that God sent His only Son to earth to live and die and rise again for our sins.
What a humble beginning for Someone so mighty, so glorious, and so
valuable – the most valuable, yet priceless, gift of all. Merry Christmas everyone!
